1) What motivates you to work with international students?
I am interested in teaching international students because I used to be a student in Satit Burapha School’s early IEP program during my middle school years. The program was perhaps not as good as many international schools at that time because it was very new, but it gave me wonderful experiences that students in Satit’s standard program would never have. The school did not put a lot of pressure on me academically, but it gave me lots of room for creativity, learning community engagement, participating in sports and music, etc. I loved all the teachers and staff who made my middle school years fun and inspiring rather than focused solely on studying. And now I love to offer the same kind of experience to young students.
2) What are two specific highlights of your training or education that you are most proud of — and that are most applicable to your teaching role at ISB?
I would say the first was all the teaching I did after finishing my undergraduate degree from Mahidol University. I decided to take a year off before I began my Master’s Degree in Chicago because I really needed more teaching experience. I taught in different music schools, at the homes of students, and in my own home with a variety of different students, not just those who were studying classical music. I also had a recent opportunity to teach in Yangon, Myanmar, where I was invited to perform solo, chamber music, and also host a guitar workshop at Gitameit Music Institute in Yangon. It may well be my best teaching experience so far because the institute has many kinds of students who were really energetic to learn new things due to recent political changes. It’s particularly applicable to my teaching role at ISB because it was my first time lecturing in English.
3) Where have you lived most of your life? If not in Thailand, what brought you here?
I lived most recently in Chonburi, Thailand, for more than 10 years. I have also traveled to schools in Nakhonpathon and the United States. I am now living in Bangkok because I am teaching at Srinakharinwirot University and am also preparing to teach at ISB.
4) Have you worked with students before in preparation for their taking music exams?
Yes, for entering the Mahidol University Pre-College Program.
