LCE Candidate Profile

Students in this program may be diagnosed with a mild intellectual disability or developmental disabilities and experience challenges in adaptive functioning, particularly in areas such as communication, social skills, and daily living tasks. They have independent toileting skills and have no significant medical or mobility concerns. The student demonstrates potential for developing independence with targeted support in self-care, social interactions, and academic skills focused on life readiness. Their program will emphasize functional academics (foundational literacy and math skills), building daily living skills, improving functional communication, and fostering social and self-regulation skills. The student will benefit from pervasive one-on-one or small-group instruction, self-regulation support, and family collaboration to ensure progress and a successful transition to greater independence.
