Middle School Outdoor Education Program

International School Bangkok strongly believes that education should not be limited to the four walls of a classroom. Through extensive research, our leadership team developed an outdoor education program for Middle School students, carried out at our Environmental Wilderness Center (EWC). The program focuses on basic outdoor activities such as wilderness and survival skills which build social and emotional competencies. It provides students with hands-on experiences to develop resilience, teamwork, and problem-solving skills, with character development as a key focus area.

The Wild Panthers Program

One of the cornerstones of ISB’s outdoor education programs for Middle School students is the Wild Panthers Program, held at our Environmental Wilderness Campus in Petchaburi Province. This Middle School outdoor education program gives students the opportunity to challenge themselves physically and mentally while learning wilderness survival skills, environmental stewardship, and teamwork in a safe setting.

Through guided Middle School outdoor learning activities, students engage with the natural world while developing leadership and character that will serve them throughout their lives.

Learning Through Adventure

The Middle School outdoor education program at ISB offers a transformative experience, encouraging students to step outside their comfort zones and develop essential life skills. Each Wild Panthers expedition is a 3-day, 2-night immersive learning experience that introduces students to a variety of outdoor skills while fostering independence and self-confidence.

Key learning objectives during the program include environmental awareness and understanding of global and local environmental issues and sustainable solutions. Students learn survival and wilderness skills like navigation, shelter-building, fire-making, and water purification. They try various adventure activities, such as rock climbing, abseiling, and orienteering.

Through outdoor learning activities, Middle School students learn leadership and teamwork as they work together to overcome obstacles and solve challenges. The experience places students in situations and conditions they may have never had before, which supports their social and emotional development and builds resilience, communication skills, and adaptability. These expeditions encourage students to reflect on their experiences and apply the lessons learned to their academic studies and personal growth.

Environmental and Sustainability Education

ISB’s outdoor education program for Middle School students lets them spend a few days in nature. While visiting wetlands and forests, students receive ecology and conservation lessons to promote environmental awareness. They learn about developing environmentally sustainable systems and the importance of participating in hands-on sustainability projects, such as waste reduction and reforestation efforts. During the program, students are made aware of environmental challenges within their community and in other parts of the world and innovative solutions to inspire responsible stewardship of the environment.
