IASAS Update January/February 2026

Updated
ISB continued their successful IASAS school year with a fantastic second season of sporting events in late January as well amazing performances in Cultural Convention 2026 that took place in early March.

The IASAS second season sports consist of Basketball, Rugby/Touch, Swimming and Tennis.  The highlight this year was the double-event, Basketball/Tennis, that was hosted by ISB AD Chris Mott and his great athletics team.  The tournaments were well-supported by the ISB community, and the overall results were excellent with the boys’ basketball earning a bronze medal, the boys’ tennis team following suit, while the girls’ tennis team earned a place in the final garnering a well-deserved silver medal.  Congratulations to Chris Mott and his crew for hosting a truly memorable event.

The other ISB teams also were successful, with the rugby and touch teams both getting bronze medals.  Perhaps the most impressive performance was turned in by the incredible ISB girls’ swim team as they bested the host SAS team to get IASAS gold for the first time in ISB history.  The ISB girls were tied with SAS going into the last event, the 4x100m relay, and the victory in that relay clinched the gold medal for the ISB girls’ team.  Congratulations to them and to all of our second season athletes.

The IASAS Cultural Convention events include Music, Speech/Debate, and Dance, Drama, Tech, which all took place during the last weekend of February.  The ISB Music team, including vocal, strings and band, traveled to Manila and responded with some truly inspiring performances.  IASAS Speech and Debate is the only one of the Cultural Convention events to be a true competition, and the ISB contingent traveled to Jakarta and came away with medals in Oral Interpretation (bronze for Zach Hall and silver for Matt Amatayakul), Original Oratory (a silver medal to Sierah Georgy), and Debate (silver medals to the team of Duncan Fitzgerald, CC Yudon and Vaanya Kapur).  Most impressive, however, was the gold medal earned by debate participant Duncan Fitzgerald, who was recognized as the best speaker in the entire debate competition.  Well done, one and all!

Here at ISB, under the direction of the amazing Mr. Anthony Giles, we hosted a truly inspiring Dance, Drama, and Theatre Tech event.  As is always the case at ISB hosted events, the ISB community came out to support the IASAS event in large numbers, leading to some truly special performances.  What was extra-special was the fact that ISB was able to hold all of the dance performances in the new ISB Theatre.  Congratulations to all of the participants, and especially to Anthony Giles and his cohorts Augusta Harison-Denby and Jaleea Price, who hosted a truly uplifting event.

One additional item that must be included is the fact that ISB was awarded two Spirit of IASAS awards during the recent Cultural Convention events.  The Spirit of IASAS award is presented to an individual or individuals who go above and beyond to exemplify what if means to be part of IASAS.  Congratulations to ISB Impromptu coach Ms. Caroline Hazel (and Weedog, of course) and the ISB Theatre Tech team for receiving these prestigious awards.
