25TH ANNUAL BANGKOK INTERNATIONAL CHOIR FESTIVAL

The focus of BICF has been and continues to be one of choir as community where singers from a variety of musical and cultural backgrounds come together to share and learn from each other through music.  This non-auditioned festival for middle school and high school is intended for whole choir participation and features repertoire that is both challenging and accessible to all students.

High School Choir

Dinah Lindberg Helgeson recently retired from International School Bangkok, Thailand, after nine years as Head of Fine Arts and the High school Choir director. Ms Helgeson attended college at Pacific Lutheran University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education. While at PLU, Dinah was member and soprano soloist with “The Choir of the West” under the direction of Dr. Maurice Skones.  Dinah pursued graduate studies at University of Southern California where she studied with Dr. Rod Eichenberger.  Ms Helgeson taught vocal music in the state of Washington and Montana and was a familiar vocal/choral clinician and guest conductor. Dinah isin demand as a guest conductor and choral clinician across the United States, Canada, and Southeast Asia. She has conducted numerous All-State Choir festivals throughout the United States. Dinah lives in Washington State.

John Baker

Middle School Choir

John Baker is a choral consultant and director of choirs, including the Tilikum Community Choir, based in Milwaukie, OR and affiliated with Oregon State University. Baker graduated from Oregon College of Education. Following this, he was choir director at Rex Putnam High School located in Milwaukie, Oregon for 32 years. He is a frequent clinician, adjudicator and choir retreat specialist around the Pacific Northwest. Music literacy is a trademark of Mr. Baker’s teaching. He has a Sight-reading/Theory program which is used at many high school and middle schools throughout the Northwest. During his tenure at Rex Putnam, the A Cappella Choir and Choralaires performed at state, regional and national ACDA and MENC Conventions. Since retirement, Mr. Baker has served as clinician for honor choirs, workshops, and retreats in Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Montana, Canada and Alaska. He continues to encourage sight reading and musicianship in his presentations.

Alicia Baker

Composer in Residence

Alicia Baker is a classically trained accordionist, singer, pianist, and composer from Portland, OR, currently residing in Denver, CO. Alicia earned 3 bachelor of arts degrees from Oregon State University; piano performance, vocal performance, and choral music education, in addition to a Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy from University of Colorado Boulder in 2017. Throughout her career, Alicia has won multiple International accordion competitions, received full-ride scholarships for all her degrees, sung leading operatic roles in multiple productions, and has performed at many notable venues including Carnegie Weill Hall and the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki.
