How to Apply
What is required to apply?
Admissions Priority and Application Stream
Siblings of current ISB students and Alumni may be given priority if the student meets our academic requirements and a seat is available in the appropriate grade level and program. Applicants who are not offered a seat due to lack of space in a grade or program will be placed in a wait pool until a space becomes available.
ISB accepts students that hold a valid non-immigrant visa or a Thai passport. Please read below to identify which application stream you should use to apply and select in the Application Form:
- THAI : Please select “Thai” if the child and both parents have Thai nationality.
- DUAL : Please select “Dual” if at least one parent holds only a non-Thai passport and the child has Thai nationality AND also has one or more additional nationalities.
- EXPAT : Please select “Expat” for applicants who parent(s) are non-Thai and have a current or future employment in Thailand.
- ED VISA : Please select “Edu Visa” if your child will require an educational visa (ED) to attend ISB. Please note that at least one parent will require a dependent visa (O) attached to the child's ED visa. For details about the student visa application process, please click here.
Visa Requirements
All students must have a valid non-immigrant visa to attend ISB or hold a Thai passport. Tourist or Elite visas are not non-immigrant visas and students cannot attend schools in Thailand on such visas as per Thai law. If your family is arriving in Thailand for the purpose of a parent's work, the employer will need to sponsor your family's visas. If you are however moving to Thailand for educational opportunities for your child, you will require an Educational visa (ED) for your child and at least one parent will require a dependent visa (O) attached to the child's visa.
Please click here to view the steps for how to apply to ISB and an educational visa. Please note there are deadlines for applying to ISB for applicants who will need support with an ED visa. You can find these in the panel above.
English Language Requirements
Students who would require support and development with their English language proficiency may be considered for our EAL (English as an Additional Language) program. All EAL applicants must demonstrate that they are close to, at, or above grade level in all subjects and school reports must indicate average to above–average achievement in any language before testing appointments can be scheduled.
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Students who are eligible to enroll in Pre-K – Grade 5 do not need to meet minimum proficiency standards in English.
MIDDLE and HIGH SCHOOL
Students entering grades 6-12 must demonstrate that they meet or exceed the English language standards established by ISB for their grade level before admission can be offered. For students who are identified as potentially requiring from this support, we will schedule an in-person/online assessment with your family after the application is complete.
Enrollment Age and Grade Level Placement Requirements
Students applying to Pre-K1, Pre-K2, and Kindergarten and Grade 1 must be 3/4/5/6 years old respectively on or before September 1st of the enrollment year.
We do not make exceptions to the birthday cut-off date for either Pre-K1 or Pre-K2.
Exceptions to Kindergarten may be made under special circumstances and are subject to approval by the Elementary School Principal and the Admissions Committee. Should you be requesting an exception to Kindergarten, please apply for the applicant's age-appropriate grade level first and request our age-exception form.
If you are unsure about which grade to apply for your child because your family is coming from a different school system, please view our Grade Level Equivalency Chart. If your child entered school earlier or later, we typically recommend for your child to continue their current trajectory.
Grade placement is at the discretion of ISB. We determine the proper placement of all new students through the thoughtful review of assessments, interviews and a review of all pertinent records to ensure that students are placed properly. Only in cases where we determine it benefits the student academically and socially, would we allow the student to advance or repeat a grade level.
High School Requirements
For students admitted to Grades 10-12, and the second semester of Grade 9, an official, signed/sealed/stamped (unopened) transcript is required for submission during your first meeting with the counselor. Credits can neither be applied nor transferred if the official transcript is not available on or before your child's first day of school. High school grade classification will be based on number of years completed, number of credits earned, and time of year of arrival. Please click here to view our credit requirements for graduation. Students who may be missing credits in certain areas will need to make up those credits over the course of the time they are at ISB.
Guardianship Requirements
All students must be in full-time residence with at least one parent or school-approved legal guardian while enrolled at ISB.

ISB follows a Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) accredited admissions process, designed to ensure that a range of learner profiles are admitted to the school, upholding our aim toward diversity, inclusion, and in the offering of student support services.
After the application is submitted
Once an application is complete, we will begin the review immediately or when the review period begins. From February-July, we read applications for entry in August, and from September-December, for entry in January. You can assist the timeframe by submitting the required documents and sharing information related to your child’s learner profile.
You will receive the decision made by the Admissions Committee via the Admissions portal and should we be able to offer a place, you will be asked to confirm your acceptance within a given time, to allow us to manage our wait pool.
