Special Academic Needs (IS)

The Intensive Studies program is designed to assist students who need additional support to achieve success in high school and be better prepared for college. A student in I.S. may be experiencing difficulties in one or more of the following areas: basic reading skills, written expression, listening comprehension, oral expression, reading comprehension, mathematical calculations and reasoning. Students' learning styles and needs are assessed and aligned with strategies to help them learn how to become successful life long learners.

The goal is to help students understand how to become successful students in high school, college and beyond. Students are scheduled into I.S. and receive elective credit. Instruction is individualized and designed for students to learn how to become more efficient and effective learners. Instruction is based on individual needs, goals, and objectives which address compensatory skills, remedial skill building, organizational, time management and other skills. Seniors also receive assistance with post secondary transition planning. In addition to working directly with students, the I.S. staff works closely with core subject teachers, counselors and parents to provide an educational environment in which students achieve success.
