Science in the middle school is the integration of science inquiry skills with specific scientific concepts in each of the four areas of science: Chemistry, Earth Science, Life Science and Physical Science. Through hands-on activities, students will develop knowledge and understanding of scientific ideas, as well as conceptual understanding of the world around them. Our students are expected to be scientists, not just learn about science!
7th Grade Science Units:
Chemistry - Through our Chemistry unit, students investigate substances, elements, and particles. Students develop an understanding that our world is composed of a finite set of atomic resources that cycle through our world. Designing reactions with mixtures and solutions, students uncover the building blocks of our world.
Earth Science – Through our Soil unit, students discover that the Earth’s surface is the product of a variety of ongoing forces that continuously change the face of our planet. From major events like earthquakes to the most, minute decomposer, students explore and begin to understand the forces that shape our world.
Life Science: Through our Populations and Ecosystems unit, students discover that sustainable habitats shape our world. Students will see firsthand how energy flows through an ecosystem, and will develop the language to describe the various and complex processes involved in a sustainable habitat.
Physical Science: Through our Electricity unit, students investigate into the fundamentals of electricity and electrical circuitry. The goal of the unit is for students to become familiar with current and static electricity, conductors and insulators, diagramming electrical schematics, and ultimately design working electrical circuits that perform specific functions.
