Measures of Academic Progress Results

Each August and May, ISB students in grades 3 through 10 take the Measures of Academic Progress test. Taken by more than 6 million students each year, this is the "Rolls Royce" of student testing.

Rather than the old fill in the bubble tests, students use a computer. If a student answers a question correctly, the next question is more difficult and vice versa. This means that we can gauge a student's achievement more accurately, more frequently, and more quickly.

Most important of all, we can measure actual progress by comparing students' August and May scores. In general, our students perform between the 85th and 95th percentile compared to MAP test norms. However the more interesting result is displayed below. It shows for each grade level how much progress the average student made during the most recent testing school year 2010-11.

Grade Reading Math
3 140% 114%
4 134% 123%
5 151% 153%
6 123% 165%
7 160% 164%
8 196% 200%
9 200% 200%

100% implies that the student made a solid year's progress compared to U.S. norms. The average across all grades and subjects at ISB is 159%. We can say that the typical ISB student in grades 3 to 9 made 1.6 years of learning progress.
