Progress Reports

Each student receives a folder containing a Progress Report and a communication notebook. These tools are especially important for young and beginning musicians to help them understand the discipline needed to become a better player. Please help your child remember to bring their folder to each lesson, and please also review the progress report regularly with your child.

Over the course of the term, your child’s performance will be evaluated informally by their teacher. After the 10th week of lessons, your child’s teacher will provide their recommendation as to your child’s readiness to perform in either an informal recital or in a more formal concert. At the end of the term your child’s teacher will also make recommendations as to your child’s lessons in the next term.
A detailed explanation of the Progress Report is on the back of the Report. Please remember that mastery of musical instruments generally does not occur within the space of just one or two years, and that another term as a beginning musician does not mean your child has not improved.

Should you need to communicate directly with your child’s teacher, you may of course meet with them personally, or you can write a note in their communication notebook. From time to time your child’s teacher may also send notes home, so please be sure to check the notebook as well.
