Presentation of the artists and their works

Laurence Causse-Parsley was born in the south of France in 1966, in a family of painters, architects and Art lovers. She was brought up in Nice in the beautiful area of Cimiez where ancient architecture from Roman times, Chagall's and Matisse's work are part of daily life. Laurence studied Literature and Political sciences in Paris and England where she meets her husband. Followed 4 years in Paris and 5 in London, 2 children and the start of a career in marketing.

During all those years, Art has been, though in the background, a vital lead in Laurence's life: extra-curricular art classes in her teens, student of the painter Yves Desvaux-Veeska in Paris after work hours. She discovers acrylic paints and pigments, which become the backbone of her richly textured, vividly coloured, mainly abstract paintings.

In 2000 after moving to Bombay, Laurence completely dedicates herself to her painting. India proves a great source of inspiration because of its very dense aesthetic dimension. In February 2003, the Hacienda Art gallery in Bombay presents her first solo exhibition of recent paintings as well as earlier life drawings. After India, Taiwan. In Taipei, Laurence discovers Chinese arts by becoming a volunteer guide at the National Palace Museum. From this moment, a light Chinese touch regularly appears in her work. The creation of a website, www.art-lac.com allows Laurence to share her paintings with a wider public. Since 2005, Laurence and her family live in Bangkok,. She has had several exhibitions as well as offering art workshops for adults and children.

Sarah Hammecker: I’m English with French nationality. I am a sculpture and have been working on ceramics for about 15 years. I graduated in BA Sculpture and later in MA Restoration of Sculpture. I worked in Dakar, Senegal, as a studio assistant in a ceramic studio for 8 years, whilst also developing my own work in ceramic. Clay is a very stimulating material for expressing ideas. Much of my work is inspired by experiences while living abroad. It is an exciting process to see these strong influences; the landscape and people around me, transforming into my work.

Pakorn Kruemkangplu:  I’m Thai. I graduated in Bachelor of art education and have been working exclusively on ceramics for around 5 years. Clay teaches me about life. Sometimes, my work is not what I am aiming for. Sometimes I get set backs but I never give up and try my best. I love throwing clay on the wheel. When clay passes through my fingers, I’m in deep meditation. My work is inspired by organic form and I express it in abstract form...

Mie Ghesquiere:  I’m Belgian: I started to work with clay about 15 years ago. Clay is a way to express myself. It’s a great material and I like to show the clay in my sculptures. Most of my work is inspired by nature and especially by the sea. In Belgium I started with hand built sculpture. When we moved abroad I learned to use the wheel. I learned ceramics in different studios in Belgium, Philippines and Thailand. Now I have a studio at home. I work together with other ceramic artist in my studio, we learn from each other and inspire each other.  My work is a combination of hand building and throwing.
