Outstanding Teaching

At ISB, educators, both administrators and teachers, are learners that work in a dynamic collaborative environment for the purpose of improving student learning. In our professional community, learning from one another, sharing Best Practices, and continually striving for excellence are the norm.

We believe that the growth and development of our educators is as important as the growth of  our students. Educators collaborate on the establishment of organizational and personal goals that support the school’s Vision. These goals are designed to inspire our teachers to achieve high levels of excellence.  ISB dedicates significant resources to supporting teachers in reaching their goals.  In addition to numerous professional development experiences such as conferences, advanced degrees and workshops, our teachers have growth opportunities embedded into the fabric of each school day.  They routinely gather to review student work, reassess curriculum, and make shared decisions about student learning.  Successful integration of these practices enriches both their performance and the performance of their students.

Educators continually deepen their understanding of pedagogy and their subject area to enhance their expertise. Their use of meaningful data about academic progress, learning styles and interests enables them to better understand and motivate each individual student.  This data empowers both teachers and their students to be self-regulated so that they lead their own learning with passion and energy.

ISB’s vibrant professional community encourages feedback that promotes continual improvement to an already strong student-teacher relationship.  This feedback arrives from multiple and diverse sources, and provides an opportunity for reflection which sharpens our teachers’ ability to build the skills of self-assessment.

Meaningful feedback is an important aspect of our evaluation model that applies what is known about learning to the adults in the school as well as to the students. Evaluation is participatory and perceived as valuable by all involved.  This model leads to assessment designs that promote an array of reflective, creative, and analytic skills. Outstanding teaching is studied, sought, recognized, and supported. Structures are promoted that  encourage self-development, a regenerative school culture, and researched Best Practices, with evaluation ensuring that the school is focused on its mission.

At ISB we recognize the significant place information technology (IT) occupies in the acquisition of knowledge and learning. Teachers integrate IT within their subject area curriculum, using it as a tool to facilitate learning.  We ensure that ISB is suitably equipped with IT hardware/software based on a strategic plan driven by the Educational Vision, Best Educational Practice, and the learning needs of students.

ISB educators shape the lives of future generations each and every day, embracing this responsibility whole heartedly. As a result of our teachers’ commitment to enhance student learning and their continual quest for growth, the school is recognized worldwide as an exemplary center for Best Practice and excellence.
