Dear New Elementary School Students and Parents,
Welcome to ISB! We hope that you are looking forward to moving to Bangkok and joining our community of families from all over the world. Our Elementary School has a wide array of academic and extra curricular opportunities for children to experience, enjoy and learn.
Prior to your arrival in Bangkok, please schedule an appointment through our Admissions Office (register@isb.ac.th) to meet with one of our counselors to complete the enrollment process.
On the day of your appointment, an Elementary School counselor will review your child's academic records with you and assess your child's academic skills. The academic skills assessment for emergent readers or non-readers is informal and is aimed at evaluating general school and learning readiness. For students beyond the emergent level, the academic skills assessment will be comprised of math, spelling and reading and will generally take 30-45 minutes to complete. This short assessment will help us to better understand your child's learning needs and assist us in the class placement process. Students from bi-lingual or multi-lingual families may also be asked to participate in our English as an Additional Language assessment. All assessments will be reviewed with you after their completion.
During your appointment we will also explain our Elementary School's programs, services and routines and provide you with our Elementary School Information Handbook.
Once your child is enrolled, we will do our utmost to assist with your child's transition to ISB in conjunction with your child's teachers and our instructional assistants. The start to our school year is staggered. Students in Grades 2-5 begin school on Monday August 9th. Students in Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten and Grade One will be invited to come into the school during the first few days to meet their teachers, see the classrooms and become orientated to the school surroundings. School begins for these children on August 10th (Grade One) and August 11th (Pre-K and KG). More specific information about this orientation will be sent out to your family in late July 2010.
Please feel free to contact us with any questions that you may have about our school at any time throughout your stay in Bangkok. We will be hosting a new parent orientation meeting during the first week of school for parents. This is a great opportunity to meet the school administration and other parents, both old and new to ISB. The date for this meeting will be announced at the start of the school year and in the ISB calendar.
