INTRODUCTION
The high school mathematics program is intended to provide mathematical skills to college-bound students. The curriculum offers courses that develop a core mathematical knowledge for all students as well as advanced courses to those wanting additional mathematics.
The core courses consist of Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2 with Trigonometry. Both Geometry and Algebra 2 with Trigonometry are offered at regular or accelerated levels.
Advanced courses consisting of Pre-Calculus, IB Standard Level (Years 1 & 2), IB Higher Level (Years 1 & 2) and AP Calculus are intended for highly motivated students. Students wanting to enter these courses during their junior or senior year must have taken all courses in the core block. Students taking Algebra 1 in grade 9 and earning at least an ‘B+' may take two math courses (Accel. Geom. and Accel. Algebra 2 with Trigonometry. or Geom. and Algebra 2 with Trigonometry) in grade 10, with approval of the department head.
ISB requires 3 mathematics credits for graduation. It is strongly recommended that all students take 4 years of mathematics and in particular during their senior year. It is also recommended that students take at least one computer course before graduating. All students are required to have a graphing calculator (TI 84 plus recommended).
