The mathematics program takes an investigative approach, which helps students make the transition from the concrete to the abstract. A special emphasis is placed on using math process skills to solve practical problems in a variety of contexts throughout the year. The main content emphasis is on building:
- Number sense: developing an understanding of decimals, including the connections between fractions and decimals.
- Computational fluency: quick recall of multiplication facts and related division facts and fluency with whole number multiplication.
- Measurement sense: developing the skills and concepts of area and two-dimensional shapes.
