Math Contest

I. GENERAL RULES:

A. All competing students will sit the American
Mathematics Contest (AMC) on the suggested
date, except with permission of the (AMC)
organizers. All (AMC) rules must be strictly
adhered to.

B. Two different exams will be administered.
The AMC 12 for grades 12 and below.
The AMC 10 for grades 10 and below.
No student will be allowed to sit both examinations in the same year.

C. Any student prevented from sitting on the same date as other students from that school must sit on his/her first day back to school, and with the prior permission of the organization.

D. Only papers graded by the AHSME organization may be counted as part of a school’s team result.

II. RESULTS:

A. Reporting:

Upon receipt of official results from the (AMC) organization, each school shall transmit the results of the top ten students in each of the Varsity and Junior Varsity categories to the school organizing the Mathematics Contest.

B. Scoring:

The Varsity score for each individual school will be the sum of the top five individual scores, regardless of grade, in the AMC 12 examination. The Junior Varsity score for each school will be the sum of the top five individual scores in the AMC 10 examination.

In each category (Varsity and Junior Varsity) the results of the top five students from each competing school shall constitute its score.
The nominated school will announce the results to all competing schools as soon as results are available.

III. AWARDS

A. School Awards – First second and third in each section.
Traveling Trophy
Tournament Trophy

B. Individuals Awards – First, Second, and Third in each Category.

First - Gold
Second - Silver
Third - Bronze


NOTE: When ties occur in an individual medal event the medal awards for a position will be made based on the number of places above the awardee. E.g. if two tie for first, the next award would be the third place award; if two tie for second, the next award will be for fourth place. This will apply to all events, both athletic and non-athletic.

C. The top Five Varsity students in each school shall receive an IASAS Math patch.

D. Each School provides a certificate of achievement and participation for the top Five Varsity students.
