MS Athletics is made up of two parts: 1) Intramural Sports and 2) BISAC.
Intramural Sports: are informal and any student can participate. There are no try outs and the focus is on fun and participation. Intramural Sports are run by teacher volunteers and vary depending on student and teacher interest, therefore, a schedule cannot be provided, but information is provided through the student notices when another Intramural Sport is coming up. Students can also let Mr. Dyke know if there is a particular sport they wish to start and we will try to provide a teacher volunteer for it.
Bangkok International School Athletic Conference (BISAC) is an athletic conference made up of international schools in and around the greater Bangkok area. Our MS students compete with other BISAC schools in the Under-15 and Under-13 age groups. BISAC is more competitive than Intramural Sports and tryouts are required for all sports except Cross Country. Nevertheless, the emphasis of ISB’s MS participation in BISAC is for the development of our athletes as they improve and learn skills, sportsmanship, and team commitment to prepare for a more intense competition at the HS level. During the regular season, each team normally has one “friendly” each week. Each season ends with a BISAC-wide tournament hosted by one of the BISAC-member schools.
What age group are you in? By BISAC rules, the age of the student is defined by their age as of August 1st of the current school year. This year, to be eligible for our U15 teams, students must have been born after August 1, 1995. To be eligible for the U13 teams, students must have been born after August 1, 1997. ISB’s MS Athletics program only allows MS students to be eligible for participation on the U-15 and U13 teams. While some Grade 9 students would be eligible according to age on the U-15 teams , our practice is to reserve the U-15 program for MS students only.
