Dear ISB Middle School Community:

First, as we celebrate the wonderful activities opportunities our youngsters are engaged in, let us all pause for a moment to pray for a peaceful and positive outcome for the Thai people in the current political turmoil that will be focused in Bangkok this weekend.

March Madness Social Friday the 19th in the MPB.  Slips due Wednesday the 17th 3:00 - 5:30pm.  Transport to Sukhumvit will be available after the social.   A new wrinkle . . . pizza needs to be ordered an paid for with the Permission Slips.  Forms available at SOAR Center, by clicking in the MarchMadness tag underneath Panthers Around the World in the upper right of this page  or on-line at http://inside.isb.ac.th/middle/documents-for-download/

The MS Habitat for Humanity group ended up going back to Pathum Thani last weekend.  The group helped dig and paint - and did such a fine job that they finished early.  Having the HforH group continue with a good number of workers is such a delight.  A swing of the shovel and wipe of the brow in salute to Paula Jones for her driving passion in connecting the MS to HforH this year.  Their next meeting is this coming Thursday, where plans for T-shirt and Bake Sale will be discussed, as well as starting plans for an overnight trip to Rayong for a build there.

MS Fun and Follies took to the Chevron last Friday with four skits, four vocal performances, three dances, two bands, two dances, a guitar solo, along with our Second Season Ex-Celebration and a showcase of those dressed as Twins/Triplets/Clones filled our time together.   The performances ranged from really polished to not-quite-as-polished . . . just what we would expect at a "kid show".  Hearing the MSers appreciative applause, celebrating their classmates Ex-Celebration, and the delightful atmosphere when the Twins/Triplets/Clones filled the stage Along with being pleased with the Follies, we were pleased with the supportive community atmosphere our audience provided our performers.

Our 3rd BISAC Volleyball Season - Both U15 Teams have played two friendlys apiece and with matches this week, all teams will be officially underway. Watching the practices is very satisfying as the level of coaching our kids is receiving is very high, indeed.  The U15 Boys played even with BPS and outplayed NIST this week.  Missing two players, our U15 Girls underwent a "learning experience" at BPS - dropping games when they didn't play well.  When the U15s are playing "their games", they play very well, indeed.  This coming week on Monday, the U15 Boys and Girls host, on Wednesday, the U15 Boys travel to NIST and the U13 Girls travel to RIS, and on Thursday, the U13 Boys travel to RIS.

The U15 Tennis program continues to serve up training.  Trainings are taking place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.  Four of the boys and our girls will be entered in the U15 BISAC Singles Tournament on the 27th of March to be held at BPS.  A Friendly match with BPS coming here is also scheduled for 22 March.

The Track and Field program, headed by Coach Vaughan, will be starting soon.  At this point, the BISAC Meet is slated be held on the grass track (and regular surfaced field events) at HIS (and hosted by St. John's).  Assisting Coach Vaughan will be Danielle Gonsalves and Peter Straub.

On Wednesday, the MS Instrumental Assembly was a delightful way to end our Conference Days shortened week. The Concert Band, the String Orchestra, performed pieces that were musically challenging and showcased how musically mature our youngsters are becoming.  The poise and presence the ensembles have on stage is truly exemplary.  As a special part of the program, the Symphonic Band was conducted by 8th graders, with Mr. Poling only speaking at the very beginning of that section of the Assembly.  There was something very, very special about having the Symphonic Band being under the baton of peers.  And . . . you guessed it, the kids played wonderfully!

The Y-Kids again hosted fifteen of their little friends from the YWCA in Pakkret on Wednesday for an hour of sandbox play, snacks and sliding (on the Big Toy).   We even had two Gr 8 young men join our group this time!  Our next Y-Kids meeting will be on Wednesday, 24 March.  Any and all new members are always welcome!

The Ping Pong Activity continues to meet Friday Afternoons from 2:15 - 3:15 in the Rajendra Breezeway. Sponsored by Mr. Herrmann, this is a wonderful opportunity for anyone to get some "table time" and polish their game. Word is that if anyone beats Mr. Herrmann, he will buy the winner an ice cream!

We are sure that you have heard some wonderful tales about the Grade 6 Trip to Kanchanaburi, the Grade 8 Trip to Chiag Mai, the Mardis Gras, and the Fun and Follies photos will soon be on the ISB Photo Page. Photos can be found at http://www2.isb.ac.th/MS/PhotoGallery/.  Enjoy!

That's it for now!  Should you ever have any comments or questions, please contact me.     Yours in the joy of MS Activity,
