Exemplary teachers:
- Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of content and ISB curriculum outcomes.
- Display comprehensive knowledge of pedagogy, and effective instructional strategies based on current best practice research.
- Plan instruction based on students' learning preferences, readiness and interests.
- Establish instructional outcomes, and use materials, resources, teachnology, and lesson designs which are tightly connected and highly effective.
- Plan a variety of assessment tools to inform students of their progress toward the outcomes and to reflect on their own practice as a teacher.
Domain 2. Creating and Maintaining an Effective Environment for Learning
Exemplary teachers:
- Foster interactions with and between students that are respectful in an environment of high learning expectations.
- Maintain a safe environment for learning in which all students engage in purposeful learning activities.
- Make effective use of instructional time and the physical space to provide a challenging and dynamic environment for learning.
- Immediately establish expectations for behavior that are clearly understood and consistently maintained.
Domain 3. Effective Instruction
Exemplary teachers:
- Communicate the content in a comprehensive, clear fashion linking it with students' previous knowledge and experience.
- Actively engage all students in learning by asking high level questions, and structuring a forum for thoughtful discussion.
- Use materials, resources, and technology that match instructional outcomes and cognitively engage all students.
- Show flexibility and responsiveness by adjusting content, process and product to meet individual learner's needs.
- Use assessment to monitor students' progress toward content outcomes and contribute to grades.
- Provide timely, quality feedback to students.
Domain 4. Professional Responsibilities
Exemplary teachers:
- Reflect on their teaching practice to establish professional learning goals.
- Engage in professional learning both in and outside of ISB.
- Keep accurate, organized records.
- Communicate effectively with families.
- Collaborate with team/department members to focus on student learning.
- Actively participate in school activities outside of the classroom.
