Students in Humanities 7 view their world from a geopolitical and cultural perspective. Throughout the year, we focus on two essential questions: How does where we live influence how we live? How does reading literature help us understand the world? Students explore these questions through the study of colonialism, migration, and quality of life.
A variety of communication skills (speaking, reading, writing, and listening) are developed throughout the year. Literary concepts and devices are studied and applied in student writing. Students analyze and produce a number of literary genres including poetry, informative essays, short stories, and persuasive writing. Grammar, usage, mechanics and vocabulary are developed in the context of the writing process and students’ work. The year - long reading program allows for differentiation, reading workshops, literary analysis, silent reading and book groups or literature circles in addition to three theme-based classroom novels.
