The Humanities class is an integration of Language Arts and Social Studies. The units of study in Social Studies are Adaptation, Innovation, Civilization and Social Order. In Language Arts, we integrate literature, writing, reading, speaking, and listening with our Social Studies units. Through both, we study the story of humanity.
The program aims to promote the enjoyment and appreciation of literature through independent reading, book groups, and novel study. Writing genres include expository, narrative, and persuasive writing. Writing is taught as a process that includes pre-writing, drafting, editing, and publishing. Students work as writers, editors and publishers throughout the year, developing their skills and their ability to recognize the qualities of good writing.
