In 1951 a group of courageous and innovative parents opened what we now know as ISB with only 50 students, all of which were the children of United Nations and American diplomats. The school was first located on the grounds of the U.S. Embassy, but soon needed to expand in order to provide both primary and secondary education for the growing population of English-speaking children in Bangkok. In 1960 ISB moved from the U.S. Embassy grounds to a large facility on Sukhumvit Soi 15. Seven years later a second campus was opened in Bangsue to accommodate the expanding enrollment. In January 1992 ISB moved to its present location - a US$25-million campus with separate elementary, middle, and high schools interwoven into one Thai-style complex that is unrivaled in the region.
Today ISB remains a nonprofit, independent, and nonsectarian school which is overseen by our parents who are members of our school association and elected to our Board of Trustees.
“Although the buildings have changed and the students have come and gone, one thing remains constant—ISB is a blend of east and west. The merge between the two is seamless, and the combination exists harmoniously.” Sanquan Chanyapuchipong, Alumni ‘96
