Here We Go

by Bill Gerritz 22 January, 2009

This was a big week for our  Cultural Center project. Tuesday evening, our Board of Trustees gave the final go ahead. Construction will start in a few weeks and is scheduled for completion in April 2010. Adding about 20 percent to the total learning space at ISB, the 6 story structure will have:

1  theater with seating for 300

24 high school classrooms

4 rooms for middle and high school band and strings

2 rooms for middle and high school chorus

2 rooms for middle and high school drama

4 ensemble rooms

19 individual practice rooms

2 dance rooms

From the beginning, the Board has wanted the building to be environmentally friendly.  The architects have been directed to follow the guidelines of  Leadership in Environment and Energy Design (LEED).  This is the  preeminent green building certification organization in the US and a leader in the world.   We expect the building to receive the LEED Gold Award.  This would be a first in Thailand.

Now the real fun begins.  When we move the middle and high school music programs into the new building, we will have that rarest of things in an international school – a little FREE SPACE.  Now we get to figure out how to make the best use of this opportunity to improve learning.  I have an idea – see my next blog on nerds.

Dear Bill, We just got here in about 23 days. Coming from the US and have been living there for the past 15 years, but I was born here in Thailand, I have seen how the country changes. We are really impressed with ISB. I have BS in Civil Engineering and MS in Engineering Management, Construction & Facilities MGT. I can speak and communicate in Thai & English. Please let me know if I can assist you when the time is right. Sincerely, Matinee 084-682-5709, 084-682-5781
