Dear Students and Parents,
On behalf of the High School faculty, I would like to welcome you all to the 2009/10 school year, with a special welcome to those new to Thailand, ISB or the High School. If there is anything we can do to assist your transition to ISB, or a new grade level, please let us know.
This handbook is designed to be a reference so that you have necessary information readily available. It also serves as a daily planner for your use in recording assignments and appointments. Other information will be made available to you in daily announcements, Communication Groups, Power School, the school website, and at assemblies.
In her message, Sophie, the student council president, touches on some fundamental truths that define successful people and organizations. Being reflective, self aware, embracing diversity, developing our humanity and seizing the moment -- follow this list and we can all anticipate a great year. However, it was Sophie's penultimate line that spoke most to me and I think holds true for all of us within the ISB community "step out of your comfort zone". In other words, be a risk-taker. It is tempting to stay with the known and familiar but more often than not our greatest learnings and accomplishments arise out of situations that we initially found uncomfortable. I hope you will carry this philosophy with you all year in the classroom, on the sports field, as you perform and in your daily interactions and conversations.
I wish all of you a successful and enjoyable school year; make sure you take full advantage of the many opportunities available to you in our academic and co-curricular programs and at times remember to step out of your comfort zone.
