Description of Meets and Related Events
2011 - 2012
The ISB Panther Swim Team attends many meets over the course of the year. Unfortunately not all teams and clubs are as organized as we are. What follows is a description of specific meets that we plan to attend this year. This list is not complete as of August 19. For the most current information, please go to our website. We have a website under the ISB banner. Go to the Activities and Athletics tab on the ISB website then select the Swim Calendar option and you can see the most up to date information.
Fall - 2011
September 10 - Gala Kickoff Short Course Time Trial
This is an IntraSquad meet held at the ISB pool on Saturday morning. All swimmers are suggested to participate and swim against ability level appropriate competition. All swimmers have a chance to post a beginning time for the year. Swimmers new to competitive swimming are guided gently by the coaches in event selection.
September 23 - ISB Panther Swim Club Swimathon
Our Swimathon is a fun event which raises money for equipment purchases and events of direct benefit to our swimmers. In the past Swimathon money has funded the purchase of digital pace clocks, an underwater camera, end of season and spirit parties, swimmers' clinics and a generous contribution to charity. All Panther swimmers are expected to participate.
October 1 - Tiger Prawn Invitational Meet at Patana
This is a first meet for all our 8+under swimmers. It is VERY low key and is a great introduction for our young swimmers to a meet away from our pool. While not mandatory it is very highly recommended.
October 5 and 6 - BISAC League Meet at Shrewsbury
This meet takes place on Wednesday and Thursday after school. The bus will depart the front of ISB directly after school and return directly when the meet is finished. It is a tri-meet with no score kept between Shrewsbury, Harrow and ISB. Entries are limited. 11+over swimmers swim on Wednesday and 10+unders on Thursday.
November 12 & 13 -Swimfest Invitational Meet
This is our fall semester meet at ISB. Approximately 500 swimmers from all over Thailand compete. This is a mandatory meet for all Panther swimmers. Swimmers choose their events with advice from coaches. As with all meets, coaches set up the relays.
November 18 & 19 - Shrewsbury Relays
This a fun meet. It is completely voluntary. 10+unders swim on Friday night and 11+overs on Saturday morning. From the swimmers indicating interest, coaches make up the relay entries. If more swimmers wish to participate than slots available, names will be drawn randomly. Appropriate for any ability level.
November 19 & 20 -Taipei American School Citi Invitational
This is our fall semester travel meet. It is held at an indoor 25 meter pool. Swimmers choose their events with advice from coaches. As with all meets, coaches set up the relays.
November 26 & 27 -Nonthaburi Cup Invitational Meet
This is a long course meet held here in Nonthaburi. In the past it has been a qualifying meet for the Thailand National Championship meet. Swimmers choose their events with advice from coaches. As with all meets, coaches set up the relays.
December 3 & 4 - Assumption College Thonburi (ACT)
This year is the 50th anniversary of Assumption College. This meet has traditionally been run very well and offers our swimmers a great opportunity to compete in a Thai run meet. The pool is good, the facility is clean and the meet offers good competition at all but the most beginning levels.
December 9 - 11 - Patana Tigersharks Feeding Frenzy Invitational
Our friendly rivals, British Patana School hold this invitational meet each year. There are both short and long course events as well as some Friday night distance swimming events for those who love the longer swims. It is also voluntary and appropriate for any age or ability level. Swimmers choose their own events with guidance from the coaches while relays are chosen by the coaches.
Winter/Spring - 2012
February 25 - 3rd Annual ISB Panther Pentathlon
The most important event for all Panther swimmers is the Individual Medley. We believe that all swimmers should train for all events and our goal is to have swimmers proficient in all strokes. This meet shows who the best overall swimmers are! All Panther swimmers are expected to compete in this meet. We typically have a couple of other teams to spice things up a bit. Each 8+under swimmer swims a 25 of each stroke and a 100IM. Each 9+over swimmer swims a 50 of each stroke and a 200IM.
March 10 & 11 - Splash Invitational Meet at ISB
This is our spring semester meet at ISB. Approximately 500 swimmers from all over Asia compete. This is a mandatory meet for all Panther swimmers. Swimmers choose their events with advice from coaches. As with all meets, coaches set up the relays.
March 30 - April 1- BISAC Championship Meet at Shrewsbury
This meet is mandatory for all swimmers who have qualified. Approximately 65 ISB swimmers will be chosen to represent ISB at this meet. Coaches select all events and relays for all swimmers.
April 5 - 7 - Thailand Open Long Course Championships (dates tentative)
This meet is requires qualifying times. Swimmers who qualify will be notified and encouraged to attend. The meet features many of the top swimmers in Thailand and always has strong competiton.
April 26 - Harrow 2Fast and 2Furious Meet
This is a fun meet for any ability level. It is voluntary on a first come first serve basis. Entries are limited by number. The meet is composed entirely of 25 meter races for all age groups. As for all meets, coaches make up the relays.
May 5 - 6 Hong Island Stingrays Invitational Meet (dates tentative)
This is our spring semester travel meet. Always a well run meet in an indoor 25 meter facility.
May 18 & 19 -Gold and Black Intrasquad Meet
This meet is a combination of serious and fun events. It is first and foremost a swimmer's last chance to get a time in some events of their choosing. Perhaps they want one more shot at a personal best - or one final shot at team record. If so, this is the Last Chance at a short course time. All swimmers are expected to participate.
