Counseling Programs by Grade Level

New Students:
  • Orientation and Peer Helper-led activities for new students
  • Orientation for parents of new students
  • Follow-up lunch for all new students

Grade 8:
  • In January, the high school  Newsletter begins to be e-mailed to parents of grade 8 students
  • Registration Assembly in March – review of registration process and course selection
  • Registration program for parents of grade 7 and 8 students – high school academic program and IB information
  • Individual appointments with parents and grade 8 students as needed to discuss registration
  • Orientation to the High School in May
Grade 9:
  • Rising 9th Grade Orientation in August before school opens. Class schedules and lockers are distributed by HS counselors. Students follow their class schedules and find their classrooms, meet with peer helpers for question/answer session
  • Freshmen Seminar throughout the first semester of the school year. Topics include: internationalism, time management, Introduction to Naviance®, representing yourself positively as a high school student, technology, library services, community/school involvement, presentation from Freedom from Chemical Dependency, developing a four-year High School academic plan, "building" your transcript, IB program.
  • Six-week and twelve-week "Progress Report" meetings with counselors
  • Ninth grade parent tea – first semester
Grade 10:
  • Academic counseling: six- and twelve-week semester grade evaluation and meetings with students ‘at risk' held after each grade to date
  • Career interest exploration through Naviance® Personality Profile and modules
  • Program to discuss registration and course planning
  • Individual meetings with students for course registration as needed
  • IB 2-year plan meeting with Dean of Academics required prior to registration for IB
  • Registration meeting for parents in March
Grade 11:
  • College Fairs and programs throughout the year
  • PSAT Testing
  • Institutional TOEFL testing
  • College Program for Juniors starting in January centered on Naviance® research and recording
  • Individual college appointments with students and parents to begin the college search process, review the PSAT and TOEFL results in late January through the beginning of March. Follow-up in May prior to summer vacation for college visits that are planned
  • Academic counseling: six- and twelve-week semester grade evaluation and meetings with students ‘at risk' held after grade to date
Grade 12:
  • College Fairs, workshops, and visits from university representatives
  • Fall Senior update interviews
  • College counseling throughout the year – selection, applications, essay review, mid-year reports, correspondence with colleges and universities, choice upon acceptance utilizing Naviance® reporting
  • Transition program – Counselors, FCD, and alumni panel
  • Academic counseling: six- and twelve-week semester grades evaluated and meetings with students ‘at risk' held after each grade to date
On-going at all grade levels:
  • Academic, personal, and social counseling
  • Course registration information/selection
  • Ongoing work with Peer Helpers – utilizing this group for new student orientation and activities, peer tutoring and other school events/programs
  • Meetings with college and university representatives – in Bangkok, at ISB, during summer holidays and while attending meetings/conferences
  • SST – ongoing assessment, evaluation, and interventions for students with various needs
