Convention Organization
















A. Convention dates:


For planning purposes, it is recommended that convention weekends are as follows:

1. Cross Country/Soccer/ Volleyball 3rd/4th Saturday of October
2. Model U.N. Last Saturday of November
3. Basketball/Swimming/ Tennis, Rugby Touch Rugby 2nd/3rd Saturday of February
4. Cultural Conventions 2nd/3rd Saturday of March
5. Badminton/Softball/ Track & Field 3rd/4th Saturday of April

In all cases, dates will be established such that there will be at least one month between events.


B. Facilities:

1. Hosting Philosophy:
One a school has committed to hosting, the hosting philosophy will be: УDo the best we can with what we have.Ф
2. Factors important to hosting a convention:
a. community involvement (spirit-parents-students-staff);
b. boost to host schoolТs program;
c. control of facilities;
d. tournament logistics;
e. costs;
f. camaraderie among participating teams; and
g. travel distance/time to off-campus facilities
3. Minimum facilities (for hosting a full tournament):
a. Soccer two fields
b. Volleyball two courts
c. Basketball two courts
d. Swimming a 25-meter pool
e. Tennis three courts
f. Rugby two fields
g. Badminton six courts
h. Softball two fields
i. Track 400-meter track

C. Convention Days:

IASAS conventions are not to begin until Thursday morning and will end on Saturday night. (Rugby and Cross Country will not begin until Friday morning). In consideration of host families, visiting schools should be scheduled to arrive at the host school be Wednesday (Thursday for Cross Country and Rugby) afternoon, and depart on Sunday at a reasonable hour.

D. Housing:
  1. IASAS philosophy supports the concept of the host school providing housing for all visiting students. It is expected that all schools recognize and adhere to this belief.
  2. Once housing is fixed by the host school, it is not to be changed.
  3. The IASAS Board recommends that whenever possible, students do not travel alone.
Grade 9 students are not to be housed alone.
