New members are always welcome!

GASA TASK FORCE

Ms. Hotra, Khun Lert

Meeting time will be after school

Some important issues concerning our environment, natural resources and health have been neglected or over looked for a long time.  Examples of these are:  carbon dioxide emission, AIDS, pregnancy before marital ages and abortion, H5N1 virus, scarcity of natural resources, etc.  These problems can bring about massive long term downside effects if are continually left unsolved.  Many worldwide organizations have been trying to educate the people but the results have not been so effective since the problems have been attacked at the middle or at the end of the chain.   Values and effective habits are best planted in the early years of childhood.  Therefore to promote an awareness among Thai community, our objective is to   distribute educational materials and share with the Thai schools, especially in the upcountry our knowledge and involvements.

RAISING HOPE

Mr. DeMille, Khun Sirinart

Raising Hope aims to raise funds to help build school facilities for poor and unfortunate schools in Thailand’s rural areas.  Our first project this year is to raise enough funds to construct a classroom for a school in Korat.  Meeting times will be flexible as most of the communication will occur through e-mails.  The major commitment for club members is participation in our weekly, Wednesday, fund-raiser; selling Thai food during lunch.  Community service hours are applicable.

RDA is a community service club which assists physically challenged Thai children to ride ponies at a local riding stable. Horseback riding is well known to be mentally and therapeutic for disabled persons. Members of this club help the children approach, mount and ride the ponies. This entails walking on the ground beside the children/ponies for support, encouragement and to ensure their safety. Students earn 1.5 service hours for each session in which they participate. Transportation is provided. Students must wear cool clothes and running shoes. The club needs a lot of help, so please consider taking part in this great community service activity!

SPARROW HOME
Ms. Reau, Ms. Kennedy
Meets most Fridays from 2:15p.m. - 4:15p.m.

ISB students participating in the Sparrow Home Community Service Club will have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of a group of young children being cared for at Sparrow Home while the children's mothers are serving time in Thai jails. ISB students develop friendships with these children through regular visits where they have the chance to play with and take care of the children at Sparrow Home (and at the ISB campus during some Thai school holidays). The children range in age from around one year to six. Club officers will be expected to arrange activities and snacks for the children on each Friday visit. ISB students earn an hour and a half of community service credit for the Friday visits; officers earn 2 hours per week (Friday visits plus weekly meetings when held). The first time students go to Sparrow Home they must present a completed Community Service Club Parent Permission Form to travel off campus. Montri vans marked Sparrow Home leave ISB from in front of the Business Office and travel to and from the Sparrow Home in Moobaan Prachachuen, off Samakee Road.

Tuesday meetings will function as brainstorming sessions, during which students will think of creative and dynamic methods of engaging the street boys for the ensuing Thursday. On Thursday afternoons at 2:15, a bus from the Street Boy's Home will arrive and bring a large group of 5-8 year olds who are orphaned, abandoned, and/or homeless and who remain at the home for no more than six months. Together, we will plan events involving arts and crafts, sports, or just plain silly game playing. Participation in this club counts toward the HS community service requirement.
