GRADE 2 VEGETABLE CARVING CLASS
In Thailand, the art of fruit and vegetable carving has been handed down from generation to genetation. Thai children are taught to carve various things, especially the fruits and vegetable normally served at daily meals. It's common to see tomatoes carved into roses, carrots into corn, mangoes into leave, etc. At ISB, the second graders have a chance to experience this fine tradition by carving cucumber into mice (in Thai it's called Nuu, boat(rua)or basket (ta-graa). Can you guess what we use to make the mouse's tail?...Yes! We use the most common vegetable in the Thai kitchen, the spring onion or ton hom. We also make flowers from spring onions to decorate our baskets.
We have a lot of fun and are proud of our work.Next time you have a party, try making a cucumber boat for a dip or decorating the dinningtable with cucumber basket filled with vegetable sticks. Have fun
