Simona Ambrosini

Simona Ambrosini Benetti, 37 years, was born in Milano, Italy. Classical studies in Italy, she moves to live in France in 2001, where she becomes student of Yves Guerin, sculptor and professor of Beaux Arts School in Clermont Ferrand, following his Monumental Sculpture’s courses during 5 years. During these years she takes part to several exhibitions in France and Italy. In 2005 she opens an atelier in Aigueperse, Auvergne, working with different materials: volcanic stone, terracotta, plaster, wood, and, especially, iron, following the “arte povera” vague taking up its contents. In 2006 she has been selected for the “Exposition du Conseil Général du Puy de Dôme: Les plasticiens d’Auvergne 2007”.

In the end of 2006 she moves to Asia, where she actually lives. In 2008, she becomes NMV guide of the National Museum of Bangkok and she opens her atelier in town. She starts to experience different metals, copper, aluminum and brass and continues to recuperate industrial scraps, while studying and testing the transformations of materials, like oxidations, corrosions, and the light effects on the surfaces. In 2009 she has been selected to participate to the collective exhibition called “New Ecologies” helded in Sheraton Pattaya, Thailand.

The new contemporary art exhibition gathering 28 international and Thai artists, is the first of what is expected to become an annual exibhition and festival of visual arts and related events in Pattaya.

These last evolutions and the Asiatic culture are marking her work.

Karen Sengel

Karen Sengel was born and raised in the United States but has lived overseas most of her adult life. She and her husband are international teachers. Karen started sewing at age six. She started quilting fifteen years ago.

In 2006, inspired by quilter Ruth McDowell, Karen moved away from geometric patterns and began designing quilts based on line drawings. Images are transformed into large drawings, often cutting a picture into hundreds of pieces. Numerous fabrics are auditioned for each piece. Many of Karen’s quilts are inspired from her many years living and traveling in Asia. Her quilts are machine pieced in a traditional way and incorporate ethnic fabrics as well as commercial material. They are then free motion quilted, adding another dimension to the design.
